newcastle airport (NAL) – under construction

Newcastle Airport have recently commenced works on the Western Shed, one of several new development projects currently underway at the airport.

Webber Architects are pleased to have been involved in this project which will provide freight and handling space with both landside and airside access to the airport.

One of the interesting things about this project is the proximity to the existing terminal building which required Webber Architects to work closely with Olsson Fire & Risk to devise an alternative fire solution to the sites which otherwise could not have been built at this proximity. This neat solution not only saved expensive sprinkler works which would otherwise have been required but utilised the same building fabric for both fire and acoustic protection.
