Webber was engaged by the Sisters of St Joseph Lochinvar to design a community-focused residential development that embodies the values of care, companionship, and connection. The project was conceived as an architectural response to communal living – a place where residents can interact naturally throughout their daily routines, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
At the heart of the development is a Communal Space designed as a social and spiritual hub, incorporating kitchen, dining, lounge, and WC facilities, along with an adjoining prayer room for reflection. The surrounding dwellings are arranged to balance privacy with community, encouraging engagement while maintaining a sense of personal retreat.
Material selections and landscape design draw inspiration from the Australian landscape and the legacy of Julian Tenison-Woods and Saint Mary MacKillop, creating a warm, peaceful environment that reflects the Sisters’ deep connection to nature and faith. The overall design prioritises safety, accessibility, and flexibility, ensuring a secure and nurturing setting that continues the order’s long-standing tradition of care and companionship.
